Still Ridin’ Dirty

August 22nd, 2008 / No Comments » / by Roy

on the Winston Salem City Buses. It has been about 2 months since I started riding the bus to work. Overall it has been a positive experience. We arrive to out destination about 85% of the time. However, when it rains we are always late. Lucky for us North Carolina is experiencing a drought. Yesterday, on my way to the bus terminal I sparked up a conversation with some bus driver trainees. I asked them about any upcoming changes to the bus system. They told me that a few new routes will be added and that the buses will start running until midnight soon. That is not what I was looking for. WSTA has to get these buses running more often that every hour. That is INSANE, who does that other than Danville. If WSTA wants to increase ridership they will have to make some changes. If they are not sure what people want, try starting some focus groups. They need newer buses, better routes and more frequent departures. By the time they figure this out, I will be driving to work again….

300lbs

August 15th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Roy

I have finally managed to get my weight under 300lbs. I was about 9 years since I was under 300lbs. At my heaviest. I was almost 340lbs. Now that would be great if I was a football player or a sumo wrestler, but 340lbs is pretty heavy for a sysadmin. It has taken about 13 months for me to reach this point. The first 10-15lbs dropped off pretty quickly. The prohibition on soda and sweet tea probably had something to do with it. Once I hit about 310lbs, I was in a rut. My weight pretty much stayed constant for about 2 months. Frustration started to set in. I decided it was time to change the game, so i purchased a treadmill. Having a treadmill allows me to work out whenever I get the urge. Sometimes I get on it late at night, sometimes it’s early in the morning. Unfortunately, I still have another 20-25 lbs to drop. My goal is to get the rest off before my 32nd birthday. So instead of writing this, I should been running….

SoundTrack To My Life

August 6th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Rhonda

What would be the Sound Track to Your Life?
I was just sitting here listening to music and I started thinking. If my life was a
movie what would that movie sound track be. Would that sound track
be R&B, rap, rock or pop? Would it reflect the highs and lows of
your life, so far?
There are a lot of movie sound track out there, but not to many
great ones. Would your sound track be one of the great ones? Would
it be one that people would remember long after you are gone? I have so many different songs that I could use for my life sound track, but I only picked a few. So here is what I came up with

  • “Makings of You” Curtis Mayfield
“Young Gifted and Black” Nina Simone
“Keep Your Head to the Sky” Earth Wind and Fire
    “A Teenage Love” Slick Rick
“Keep On Movin’” Soul II Soul
    “Friends” Whodini
“Midnight Train to Georgia” Gladys Knight & Pips
    “Just My Imagination” Temptations
    “1999″ Prince
    “No Scrubs” TLC
“Come & Talk” to Me Jodeci
“All I do Is Think of You” Troop
“Is This The Way” Chrisette Michele
    “I Chose You” Willie Hutch
“If I Ain’t Got You” Alicia Keys Featuring Usher
    “Ye-Yo” Erykah Badu
    “Happily Ever” After Case

I know, I am still working on it.

Save the enviroment, stop buying hair weaves!

August 5th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Roy

I’ve been riding the bus about a month. During this time, I have seen some of the worst hair weaves in the history of the universe. I thought the purpose of the weave was to give the illusion of longer/more hair. The illusion is broken when the weave looks like a hair scraps sitting on the top of the head or when the hair textures are totally different. There is no difference between a bad weave and a hat, they both just sit on the top of your head.

Personally, I would rather see a women in a short hair cut than a hair weave. Not all women can have long hair and certain women look better with short cuts, but regardless if its long or short. Keep it real!! You can feel better about yourself knowing that your are not filling the landfills with fake hair, or adding to America’s dependency on foreign oil with those synthetic hair weaves. Do the right thing!

Google Gears

August 5th, 2008 / No Comments » / by Roy

Would you like to speed up your web browsing? Of course you would! Google Gears is an open source project that enables more powerful web applications, by adding new features to your web browser like storing data locally and processing java in the background. After installing it, I did notice slightly faster web browsing (or maybe I didn’t). To down load your copy of Google Gears, go here

Craig, I need to borrow your microwave!

July 28th, 2008 / 2 Comments » / by Roy

Well that’s not exactly how it went down, but it was close enough. I suppose asking to borrow a cell phone is whats hot in the streets right now. In my opinion, the only time you should ask to borrow a phone is in an emergency. Since riding the bus, I have seen numerous people ask to borrow a cell phone. One guy let this girl borrow his, she made about seven calls looking for some guy named Rico, she never did find him. In 2008, anyone can get a phone, so there is no excuse not to have one. Ask to borrow a pen, a pencil, just not my cell phone.
